Transportation Planning Grant Program

Transportation planning grants promote a balanced, comprehensive multi-modal transportation system. These grants may be used for a wide range of transportation planning purposes, which address local and regional transportation needs and issues. The implementation of these grants should ultimately lead to the adoption, initiation, and programming of transportation improvements.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), Division of Transportation Planning, provides the following transportation planning grant programs:

  • Environmental Justice (EJ) - $3 million
  • Community-Based Transportation Planning (CBTP) - $3 million
  • Partnership Planning - $1.2 million
  • Transit Planning
    • Statewide or Urban Transit Planning Studies - $1.5 million
    • Rural or Small Urban Transit Planning Studies - $900,000
    • Transit Planning Student Internships - $300,000
Applications for the FY 2013/2014 Transportation Planning Grant Program cycle are being accepted now through Tuesday, April 2, 2013. Information about the Transportation Planning Grant Program and application process can be found at the following website: http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/tpp/grants.html
