Project: Interstate 10 (in San Bernardino County) at post mile 25.54 and post mile 24.54
Interstate 10 (in Riverside County) at post mile 81.21 and post mile 74.10
Interstate 15 (in Riverside County) at post mile 2.05

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) plans to perform rehabilitation activities on six bridges, which will include scour mitigation, application of methacrylate on decks, joint seals replacement, access openings installation, and paint restoration.
Four bridges are located on I-10: two in San Bernardino County and two in Riverside County. One bridge is located on I-15 in San Bernardino County, and one bridge is located on SR-91 within Riverside County. All construction work at all six locations is expected to be restricted to existing state right of way (ROW). No new ROW, including temporary construction easements, is expected to be needed for this project.
The purpose of the proposed project is to maintain and provide the means to ensure the integrity of these six existing bridges by preventing further deterioration of the decks, substructures, and joints.
Caltrans is lead agency under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

PROJECT ALTERNATIVES STUDIED
For the proposed project, a Build Alternative and a No-Build Alternative were evaluated in conjunction with preparation of the Environmental Assessment.
A brief summary of the rehabilitation activities planned for each of the six bridges is provided below:
Bridge A (Bridge No. 54 0599) – I-10 at PM 25.54, San Timoteo Creek (San Bernardino
County). Work at this location includes replacing the fatigued joint seals.
Bridge B (Bridge No. 54 0822F) – I-10 at PM 24.54, I-10 west and southbound I-215
connector (San Bernardino County). Work at this location includes installing 12 inspection
access openings at the bottom of the box girder and removing 20 feet of the lost deck falsework
at each opening, so access can be gained to the underside of the structure to examine the
significantly cracked deck.
Bridge C (Bridge No. 56 0463) – I-10 at PM 74.10, Hazy Gulch (Riverside County). Work at
this location includes applying methacrylate to seal cracks on the deck to extend its service
Bridge D (Bridge No. 56 0512L) – I-10 at PM 81.21, Paul Gulch (Riverside County). Work at
this location includes scour mitigation, backfilling the erosion at abutment #4, and replacing
the ripraps that have been washed out.
Bridge E (Bridge No. 54) – I-15 at PM 2.05, Airport Drive Undercrossing (UC) (San
Bernardino County). Work at this location includes treating the deck with methacrylate.
Bridge F (Bridge No. 54) – SR-91 at PM 17.82, Arlington Avenue UC (Riverside County).
Work at this location includes sandblasting/cleaning and applying methacrylate sealing to all
approach and departure slabs on eastbound and westbound ends of the deck, and replacing the
closure pours, which are deteriorating and have many spalls on them.
In all locations except for PM R81.21 at Paul Gulch, construction work, construction equipment and crew activities, and construction crew vehicles would be restricted to within the paved areas on the bridge decks. A 25-foott-wide by 25-foot-long staging and storing area would be located in the existing median. At Paul Gulch, work would occur under the bridge decks to replace missing riprap under the westbound bridge. Equipment would include a backhoe, and work would require a temporary access road to access the work area. The temporary access road in the existing median would be 25 feet wide and 150 feet long. The temporary access road in the streambed would be 25 feet wide and 115 feet long.
