Weekend Repairs Close Eastbound Genesee Avenue On-ramp To Southbound State Route 163
SAN DIEGO—Caltrans crews will close the eastbound Genesee Avenue on-ramp to southbound State Route (SR-163) for the weekend beginning tonight at 9 through Monday morning at 5. The closure is needed to replace a collapsed pipe and repair the resulting sinkhole below the ramp embankment.
Portable changeable message signs will be placed to direct motorists on eastbound Genesee to northbound SR-163, to Mesa College Drive west, and then to southbound SR-163.
Crews will work continuously through the weekend to complete repairs. Work includes excavating the sink hole and temporarily stockpiling excavated material, removing and replacing the failed pipe, backfilling the hole, then repaving and striping the on-ramp.
Motorists and nearby residents can expect construction equipment noise such as back-up alarms and diesel motors. Light towers will be used during nighttime.
Drivers are advised to Be Work Zone Alert and to move over a lane or slow when workers are present with flashing amber lights.
