Don’t Trash California Day/Adopt-A-Highway

WHO:              California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 11 Maintenance Support Manager Ray Aguiar and East County Adopt-A-Highway volunteers. 

WHAT:               Caltrans Maintenance crews and Adopt-A-Highway volunteers will be out in force throughout the day removing litter and working to beautify state highways and Park and Ride lots. Adopt-A-Highway volunteers and their work will be highlighted.

WHY:                Highway litter is an ongoing problem. Maintenance crews are taken away from their primary duties of making repairs and maintaining state highways to remove litter. Adopt-A-Highway volunteers also devote countless hours to this effort.

WHEN:              Thursday, April 21 at 10:30 a.m.

WHERE:           Eastbound Interstate 8 (I-8) Fuerte Drive Park and Ride Lot 
I-8 at Severin Drive, La Mesa – Southwest Quadrant
Intersection of Bancroft/Severin/Fuerte Drive.

PHOTO/VIDEO OPPORTUNITY:

This event will feature some of the various activities of Adopt-A-Highway groups in east San Diego County. In addition to litter removal and vegetation control, volunteers also plant and establish flowers and trees on some state highway facilities. Adopt-A-Highway volunteers beautified the Bancroft/Fuerte/Severin Park and Ride lot by planting and established flowering vines, trimming the trees and keeping the property free of litter.
