Overnight Closure of Genesee Avenue

SAN DIEGO— From 9 p.m. on Thursday, to 5 a.m. on Friday, eastbound and westbound Genesee Avenue will be closed from just east of the Interstate 5 (I-5)/Genesee Avenue Bridge to approximately the Scripps Memorial Hospital main entrance. Additionally, the I-5 northbound on-ramp from Genesee Avenue and I-5 northbound off-ramp to Genesee Avenue will be closed. These closures are required for crews to safely remove and replace a light pole in this section of Genesee Avenue. Hospital access for emergency vehicles will be maintained. Motorists will be detoured to La Jolla Village Drive to access Genesee Avenue.

Additionally, during this timeframe there will be reduced lanes on northbound and southbound Interstate 5 so crews can replace crash cushions in the median.

Please note construction schedules are subject to change. We appreciate your patience as we work to improve the interchange.

The $105 million project will replace the existing six-lane Genesee Avenue overpass with a ten-lane structure that will include additional vehicle lanes, new bike lanes and sidewalks, and better accommodate current and future traffic demands in the San Diego region. The I-5/Genesee Avenue Interchange Project is expected to be completed in 2017.
