Portion of Evan Hewes Highway Closed
EL CENTRO, Calif.—Caltrans crews will close a portion of Evan Hewes Highway from about one mile east of Holdridge Road in Holtville to just west of Gordons Well in Winterhaven beginning Tuesday, July 12 through early 2017.
The closure is needed to repave the roadway for use as a temporary detour for westbound Interstate 8 (I-8) in connection with the I-8 Update Project.
Detours for eastbound and westbound Evan Hewes Highway will be provided and clearly signed.
The $417.7 million Interstate 8 Update project will construct Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP) along I-8 from State Route 111 to the border with Arizona. The new pavement will extend the life of the pavement, provide motorists with a smoother ride, and increase highway worker safety by reducing the need for maintenance.
More information about the project is available on the Caltrans District 11 website at http://www.dot.ca.gov/d11/projects/8CRCPavementProject.pdf
