Interstate 5 Corridor Improvements
I-5 Improvement Project: The I-5 North project is currently constructing a freeway widening and pavement reconstruction on Interstate 5 This project would add northbound High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane between and including Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Hammer Lane. Construct a concrete median barrier; reconstruct the existing pavement with 40-year life Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement, construct auxiliary lanes in both the northbound and southbound directions from March Lane to Hammer Lane; and, add soundwalls from the Hammer Lane to Country Club Boulevard
I-5 Rehabilitation Project: This project is located in San Joaquin County near and in the City of Stockton, on Interstate 5 from Charter Way to Country Club Boulevard. The work involves reconstruction of the existing eight lanes of the freeway with Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP), reconstructing and widening the inside shoulders, reconstructing the outside shoulder, and auxiliary lanes between the project limits. Other improvements include reconstructing the approach slabs of the structures, concrete median barrier, replacing culverts, and incorporating rumble strips.
The project is being undertaken in order to enhance traffic circulation, relieve congestion, improve person-carrying capacity and accommodate forecasted traffic demands in Northwest Stockton.
Construction is anticipated to be completed by late 2016.
