FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Nevada County --- Caltrans is reminding motorists of various lane closures this construction season due to emergency repairs along State Route 20 (SR-20) in Nevada County.

Crews are scheduled to return to the White Cloud area for emergency slipout repairs. Various lane closures and traffic control will be in place as needed from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday until the end of October. The damage occurred after a series of severe storms earlier this year caused large cracks along the newly constructed highway alignment. A temporary concrete barrier was placed to help prevent slide material from entering the roadway while repairs are underway.

The erosion and washout developed last year after the extreme 2022/23 winter season and were caused by concentrated runoff from snowmelt. Repairs started in summer 2023 with traffic control held in connection with the SR-20 Omega Curves Project.

The schedule is subject to change or be delayed due to weather conditions, material availability, or other unexpected events.

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.

The department will issue construction updates on @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3. For real-time traffic, click on Caltrans’ QuickMap or download the QuickMap app from the App Store or Google Play.
