The California Road Charge Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) was established in 2014 by Senate Bill 1077 (Chapter 835, Statutes of 2014). SB 1077 created the California Road Charge Pilot Program and tasked the California Transportation Commission (CTC), in consultation with the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) to convene a fifteen member Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) to study a user-based alternative to the gas tax, gather public comment, and make recommendations to CalSTA regarding the design of a road charge pilot program.

Final Report

The California Road Charge Pilot Program officially concluded on March 31, 2017. After a nine-month study involving over 5,000 vehicles statewide, we have successfully completed the largest road charge pilot of its kind. Now, we are in the process of compiling data which will be followed up with a more in-depth analysis for the final report.

The California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) will submit a final findings report to the Legislature, the California Transportation Commission, and the Road Charge Technical Advisory Committee in summer of 2017.
