On Tuesday, April 22, 2008, 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM, Mr.Eric Schreffler presented "Managing Travel Demand To Address Congestion."
Eric presented the results of an International Scanning Study on Managing Travel Demand. This study has been presented at two other Caltrans’ workshops and will be the subject of a workshop that was held in the Bay area last fall and to be held in LA in May (hosted by Caltrans and FHWA).
The presentation covered demand management strategies categorized into four areas: operational, pricing, infrastructure, and institutional. A key component of the presentation is the need for and examples of integrating demand management into planning, managing and operations. Some interesting case examples were provided, including Stockholm and Lund, Sweden, Rome, London, the Netherlands, and Cologne.
Topic Description: Managing Travel Demand To Address Congestion
Eric Schreffler is an independent transportation consultant based in San Diego. He specializes in evaluating the travel and air quality impacts of transportation management strategies. He has 25 years of experience with transportation planning and analysis. He has consulted to Caltrans, the California Air Resources Board, most MPOs in the state, many county transportation agencies, cities, and private employers.
Internationally, Eric has consulted to the European Commission, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, the Dutch Ministry of Transport, among others. He holds a B.A. in Urban Studies from U.C. San Diego and a M.S. in Transportation from M.I.T. He is a native San Diegan and an avid Padres fan.
