Project Description
A federal-state joint study has employed new technologies for improved grade crossings on the Amtrak California San Joaquin rail corridor. Laboratory and field visibility tests have documented the effectiveness of new light-emitting-diode fixtures at highway/railroad intersections. A train-mounted video recorder has enhanced the analysis of grade crossing signal violations by motorists in advance of train arrivals. Methodologies are being developed for more effective highway/railroad intersection safety improvements.
