Project Management Institute's (PMI) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) is a collection of knowledge areas generally accepted as best practice within the project management discipline. Just like internationally recognized standards expressed by IEEE; it provides fundamentals of project management, no matter what type of project it may be.
Processes tend to interact and sometimes overlap throughout a project and so are described in terms of inputs (documents, plans, designs, etc.), tools and techniques (mechanisms applied to inputs), and outputs (documents, products, etc.). From planning to execution to closing, the project manager is faced with the challenge of collecting, managing, and distributing information.
