Roseville Station History
The Roseville Amtrak Station is truly unique in California. Not a historic structure, nor a rehabilitation of a previously existing station, the Roseville station is a modern day updating of an original Southern Pacific standard plan station. It is not a replication of the previous Roseville station, which was located about two blocks east of the current station's location of 201 Pacific Street at Church St -- 95678. The exterior is as originally designed, with the only evidence of modern times in meeting current building codes and updated electrical and plumbing systems. The upstairs in the original would have been the apartment of the station operator. In today's version, those rooms are used by the travel agency.
Downstairs, the ticket office, baggage room and waiting are much like in the original station, although restrooms are not like the originals, and are fully compliant with handicapped accessibility requirements. In the "good old days" no one would want an open beam ceiling, but today is another story.
Also unique in California is the fact that although this station is not staffed by Amtrak, it is not without staff. The travel agency operates the station as a Greyhound agency, and can write tickets for Amtrak travel as well. Because it is NOT an Amtrak facility, there is no checked baggage for Amtrak travelers.
The station is served by Amtrak's California Zephyr and Capitol trains, Amtrak Motor Coaches connecting Roseville to the San Joaquin and the Capitols, Greyhound Bus, and local transit.
