Amtrak Motor Coaches stop at The Price's Peg House, 69501 Highway 101, North Leggett Heights, on their way from the North Coast of California to Amtrak trains in Martinez. The Peg House is a general store constructed of hand hewn beams held together with wooden pegs. No nails were used in its construction. The Peg House is also a stop for Greyhound buses, and offers amenities for the motor coach traveler, as well as provisions for woodspersons using nearby campgrounds. Across the highway is the entrance to Standish-Hickey State Recreation Area.
This stop is NOT staffed by Amtrak. Thus, there is no ticket or baggage service at Laeggett. The closest station offering those services is Martinez. Amtrak passengers must be connecting to an Amtrak train service to ride these motor coaches, and are expected to have tickets when boarding. You may purchase Amtrak tickets from a travel agent, a staffed station, on the telephone by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL, or over the internet from <http://tickets.amtrak.com>.
The staff at the Peg House should not be expected to be knowledgeable about Amtrak California Motor Coach schedules and fares. Refer to the bus stop signs for current schedules. As a courtesy to the Peg House, please do not park your car for an extended period in their parking lot. Thank you.
Standish-Hickey State Recreation Area has 162 developed campsites, some of which are wheelchair-accessible. It is the third largest State campground in the North Coast Region (Sonoma County to the Oregon border), slightly behind Richardson Grove State Park with 169 campsites but well below Humboldt Redwoods which has 268 sites.
