Fillmore is a stop on Amtrak California's Motor Coach connections between the San Joaquin trains (at Bakersfield) and coast cities in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.
The stop is unstaffed, located in front of the International House of Pancakes Restaurant, 718 Ventura Street (junction of California Highways 23 and 126). Restaurant staff should not be expected to know the details of Amtrak Motor Coach arrivals and departures.
Neither tickets, baggage, nor package express shipments are handled at this location. The nearest stations offering such services are Oxnard and Bakersfield. Tickets may be purchased from an Amtrak travel agent, over the telephone from Amtrak at 1-800-USA-RAIL (1-800-872-7245) or over the Internet from Amtrak's home page, http://tickets.amtrak.com.
The Santa Clara River Valley, in which Fillmore lies, stretches from just west of Interstate 5 to the Pacific Ocean, and includes Piru, Fillmore, and Santa Paula. Locally known as Heritage Valley, this area is rich in local history, from the Chumash Indians right up to the first discovery of oil in California. Fillmore itself is the home of the Fillmore and Western Railroad, an operating tourist and television and movie railroad.
The Santa Clara River Valley Railroad Historical Society is adjacent to City Hall and the Fillmore & Western Railroad. The Visitor Center is just across the street from City Hall, housing railroad artifacts, an educational library, Lionel model train layout, gift shop, video library and theatre. SCRVRHS also hosts the Fillmore Rail Festival, held the third weekend in March.
