SACRAMENTO — Caltrans achieved a major milestone with the opening of 10 miles of new bus and carpool lanes on Interstate 80 in North Sacramento.
In this Caltrans News Flash, Caltrans describes how the new lanes help ease traffic congestion, reduce air pollution and shorten the travel time for an estimated 145,000 daily drivers.
The new bus/carpool lanes run approximately 10 miles in both directions completing a continuous carpool lane that now stretches about 22.5 miles on I-80 between Sacramento and Roseville.
The project also built new auxiliary lanes, drainage systems and median barriers. Additional enhancements include larger signs, sound walls and lighting.
The $136 million project received $53.5 million from Proposition 1B, the 2006 voter-approved transportation bond that allocated more than $19 billion in funds for transportation purposes statewide.
