Caltrans Assists Contractors with Boulder Reduction, Saves Taxpayer Dollars

EUREKA – In this Caltrans News Flash, licensed Caltrans blasting specialists travel to a State Route 299 work site in eastern Humboldt County to reduce the size of overhanging boulders at a construction site by blasting, saving both time and taxpayer money.

Caltrans was rendering aid to a contractor who had requested assistance with the boulder removal. We speak with members of the Caltrans blasting team to learn more about the process and precautions taken to ensure that blasting operations are safe and successful.
