SACRAMENTO - Watch Out for Wildlife Week is September 19-25, and Caltrans and the Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) remind drivers to be alert especially in wildlife areas. Highway fencing and undercrossings across the state help keep motorists and animals safe, but experts say drivers still need to be cautious since wildlife is active in the fall.
In this Caltrans News Flash, we visit a specially modified highway undercrossing on State Route 89, between Truckee and Sierraville, where a Caltrans Environmental Planner explains the benefits of the undercrossing and how it improves safety in an active wildlife corridor. We also offer some safety tips that can help drivers stay alert.
