Pavement
Mission Statement
Caltrans invests between $500 million and $600 million annually for the maintenance, reconstruction and rehabilitation of approximately 50,000 lane-miles of paved highways. Roadway research addresses problems associated with pavement materials as well as the structural sections beneath the pavement. It encompasses analytical and experimental activities that include, but are not limited to: design, products, aggregates, binders, soils, and pavements. These activities all have the same goal, reducing the costs of construction and maintaining California's highways.
