Public Transit/Passenger Information Interface
Google Inc. is currently testing a new service that is tied to their internet search engine to provide public transit trip options on an interactive digital map. The Google Transit Trip Planner is free to both participating agencies and end users. Small urban or rural transit agencies will be selected to provide them with the resources and the technical skills to organize their schedule data and convert to the Google Transit Feed Specification.
Non-frequent transit riders are often confused and intimidated when they are faced with planning an auto-less trip. Making alternate mode trip planning easier through education and providing easy-to-use formats and familiar instruments to obtain schedule, fare, and other information prior to boarding will make the experience and mode-switch less formidable.
