Advanced Transit Signal Priority (TSP)

Balwinder Tarlok

Project Description

Our streets and highways are getting more congested.  It is in the best interest of all to improve public transit service. Transit signal priority (TSP) is a critical technology for bus rapid transit systems, and its deployments have demonstrated positive effects on reducing bus intersection delays and improving service schedule adherence. However, concerns have been frequently raised that TSP operations may interrupt the normal operation of signal control and thus increase delays to other traffic, as a result, could deteriorate the overall performance of signal control that was optimized for mixed traffic flow.
