"Working with Native American Communities"

"When engaging in activities or developing policies that affect Native American tribal rights or trust resources, the Department acts in a knowledgeable, sensitive and respectful manner.
Native American communities include lands held in trust by Tribal Governments, communities of non-federally recognized tribes, tribal members of California tribes living outside the exterior boundaries of a reservation or Rancheria, Native Americans that are not part of a California tribe living in California."

Native American Advisory Committee
The Native American Advisory Committee was established in 1997 to improve the government-to-government relationship between the Indian Tribes of California and the California Department of Transportation (Department). The Committee provides advice to the Director of the Department regarding matters of interest or concern to the Tribes and their constituents. This link provides access to past meeting Agendas and Minutes, as well as Agenda's and locations for upcoming meetings.

There are 12 districts in Caltrans, 10 of which have federally recognized tribes. Each district with a federally recognized tribe has a Native American Liaison as well as Cultural Studies Coordinators. You can use this link to find out which district you are in, as well as contacts for representatives in your district. We also have district maps of Trust Lands.
