TEST BLAST OF PIER E3 IMPLOSION HIGHLIGHTS COLLABORATIVE EFFORT

California Highway Patrol Plan Traffic Control

OAKLAND—Caltrans gives an inside look at the test blast being conducted by the demolition team and traffic control plans of the California Highway Patrol, in preparation for the implosion of Pier E3 of the old Bay Bridge. On Nov. 14, the scheduled day of the implosion, a highly coordinated schedule of operations and sequences will be performed by construction, design and environmental teams.

In this Caltrans News Flash, Bay Bridge spokesperson Leah Robinson-Leach gives you a sneak peek at a trial run to test personnel placement, equipment and monitoring systems, particularly the Blast Attenuation System, also known as the "bubble curtain." This highly orchestrated operation is the culminating effort to bring down the largest of the old Bay Bridge marine foundations: 20 million pounds of underwater concrete.
