CALTRANS COMPLETES NEW SECTION OF KINGS CANYON EXPRESSWAY IN FRESNO COUNTY
FRESNO – Caltrans today announced it has completed a new six-mile segment of the Kings Canyon Expressway (Highway 180) in Fresno County that will significantly reduce traffic congestion for motorists traveling between Fresno and Sanger. The $68 million project received $18 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) of 2009.
“This much-anticipated project will provide eastern Fresno County a convenient expressway that will cut daily travel times for commuters and speed up the movement of goods,” said Acting Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty.
The project constructed a new four-lane expressway from just east of Temperance Avenue to Quality Avenue, providing motorists 20 miles of expressway between Fresno and Sanger.
California has obligated nearly $2.6 billion in Recovery Act funding to nearly 1,000 highway, local-street, and job training transportation projects statewide. For more information on the Recovery Act, please visit: http://www.dot.ca.gov/Recovery.
