Caltrans Provides Safer Travel to Motorists on Highway 99 in Butte County

BUTTE COUNTYButte County – Caltrans today announced it has completed repaving of a 4.5-mile stretch of State Highway 99 near Biggs in Butte County. The $18 million project received $9 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act).

“Thousands of motorists will benefit daily from a safer roadway along this two-lane section of Highway 99,” said Acting Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty. “This project is also an example of our commitment to improving safety on our roads, while creating jobs that help fuel California’s economy.”

Every day, up to 12,000 vehicles travel on this stretch of Highway 99 in southern Butte County. In addition to repaving, Caltrans widened road shoulders, constructed a new center left turn pocket at Hamilton Road and installed new highway drainage systems. The new pavement is also designed to absorb rainwater better and last up to 15 years.

California has obligated nearly $2.6 billion in Recovery Act funding to nearly 1,000 highway, local street, and job training transportation projects statewide. For more information on the Recovery Act, please visit:
