Part III Section 2 | |
|
This section of the annual report presents the methods in which your agency informed both employees and customers served that a recycling program was being implemented. Below are identified the programs you reported were continued or implemented during 2001.
| |
|
Part III Section 3 |
|
| Procurement Activities Implemented in 2001 | |
|
This section of the annual report presents your compliance with the State Agency Buy Recycled Campaign (SABRC). The activities identified below were reported as implemented or continued during 2001. (Note: Completing this section does not meet the SABRC reporting requirements (PCC Section 12162(b)).
|
Part IV | ||
| 1 . | Is the mission statement of the State
agency/large State facility the same as reported in the Integrated Waste
Management Plan? If the answer to 1 is No, What is the new mission statement?
| 2 . | How has the waste stream, i.e. those
materials disposed in landfills, changed since the Integrated Waste
Management Plan was submitted? Our waste stream is generated from three primary sources. One: District Headquarters, field and satellite offices. Two: construction projects. Three: maintenance and equipment shops. Previously, insubstantial data was recorded for sources two and three. Documentation of disposal and diversion has improved at the District Headquarters, but field and satellite offices have not begun reporting their data yet. At this time, there is no quantifiable means of comparing the present and past waste streams.
| 3 . | What waste diversion programs are
currently in place and what waste diversion programs were implemented in
2001 to meet the waste diversion goals? At the District Headquarters white paper, newspapers, beverage containers and cardboard are diverted. Also, used computers, monitors, and printers are donated to various organizations. Fluorescent tubes and batteries are collected even though they do not figure into the calculations. The SHOPP locations divert materials including tires, batteries, oil, and other liquids. The construction project selected for this report diverted large quantities of asphalt, metal beam guardrail, and vegetation. Construction contractors are now required to report the disposal and diversion of construction debris.
| 4 . | How were the amounts of materials
disposed and diverted, that were entered into the Annual Report,
determined (e.g. waste assessments, per capita generation and
extrapolation, actual disposal weights, or actual recycling
weights)? Amounts of material disposed and diverted were determined primarily by obtaining records from vendors such as Waste Management of Alameda County, Northern California Paper Recyclers, East Bay Conservation Corps and AERC. In some cases it was necessary to estimate the tonnage using conversion charts or other means. The SHOPPs were responsible for furnishing their own data, as was the contractor for the construction project.
| 5 . | What types of activities are included
in each of the reported programs? For example does your agency Business
Source Reduction include email, double-sided photocopying, reusing
envelopes, etc.? We do encourage the use of email, double-sided photocopying, and the reuse of envelopes. While these activities are included in the programs, they do not figure into the diversion calculations.
| 6 . | Has the State agency/large State
facility adopted or changed it's waste reduction policy? If Yes, what is the new waste reduction policy?
| 7 . | What resources (staff and/or funds)
did the State agency/large State facility commit toward implementing it's
Integrated Waste Management Plan in 2001 to help meet the waste diversion
goals? Minimal staff resources and funding were committed toward implementing our plan in 2001 to help meet the waste diversion goals.
|
Part IV Miscellaneous | ||
| 8. | Please note that District 4's
employees are constantly in flux, and exact tallies at each location are
not possible. Attempts were made to update the contact information in Part
II for many of the construction and maintenance offices, but some of the
data could not be changed without affecting the District 4 coordinator's
contact information. All construction offices should show Bea Bustamante
as the contact. | |
