- June 16, 2006 memorandum entitled "Declaration of Units of Measure - 'English' or 'Metric' Project" : This memorandum, signed by Richard Land, announces that projects on the State Highway System may now be developed, advertised, and awarded in English units and a formal declaration of the units of measure that will be used must be made for all projects not yet awarded.
- February 21, 2005 memorandum entitled "Metric to U. S. Customary Units (English) Transition Plan" : This memorandum, signed by Richard Land, announces the establishment of transition team for the Department to revert back to using English units and standards.
- August 20, 2004 memorandum entitled "Metric to U. S. Customary Units (English) Transition" : This memorandum, signed by J. Mike Leonardo, announces the transition plan for the Department to revert back to using English units and standards.
- July 7, 2004 memorandum entitled "Review of Departmental Policy on Metrication " : This memorandum, signed by Mark Leja, presents the recommendation regarding the continued use of metric units.
- September 27, 2002 memorandum entitled "Reaffirmation of Metric Policy" : This memorandum, signed by Brent Felker, reaffirms and summarizes the Departments policy regarding the use of metric units.
- April 21, 2000 memorandum entitled "Processing English Unit Projects" : This memorandum, signed by Brent Felker, outlines the plan and specification requirements associated with delivering a project in English units. This applies to a limited number of projects that have received metric exceptions and have not been constructed.
- October 22, 1999 memorandum entitled "Dual Units on Encroachment Permit Projects" : This memorandum, signed by Robert Buckley, changes the policy to allow the use of dual units on encroachment permit projects.
- August 26, 1998 memorandum entitled "Metric Policy for Appraisal Maps" This memorandum, signed by Denny Shields, Program of Right of Way Program, and H. W. Griffin, Chief of Office of Engineering Technology, provides the metric policies regarding appraisal maps.
- December 15, 1995, memorandum entitled "Metrication": This memo, signed by Caltrans Director, explains Caltrans metric deadlines. The National Highway System Designation Act contains language allowing for postponement of the metric mandate. Caltrans, along with the majority of States, will be continuing with the conversion effort in lieu of postponing the deadline.
