To expedite this project, Caltrans will execute the Pile Demonstration Installation Project in two separate contracts: Procurement and Installation.
Procurement Contract: This contract involves the fabrication, delivery, and storage of three 2.5 m diameter x 100 m steel piles. The steel pipe piles will be manufactured in section and be delivered to a designated storage site near the east span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. The bid opening date for the PIDP Procurement Contract is June 17, 1999. Estimated value is $2 million.
Installation Contract: This contract involves the transportation, field fit-up and weld splicing of pile sections, and pile driving of three 2.5 m steel pile piles in San Francisco Bay at designated locations adjacent to the existing east span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. The three steel pipe piles are to be driven as follows:
The work will require the use of special mobilization equipment to transport the piles from the storage site to the designated locations for installation, and hammers to drive the pipe piles in the San Francisco Bay. The installation contract for the PIDP will be advertised in May 2000. Construction is expected to begin in June 2000.
