Tower 1 Cranes hammer in steel piles that will serve to hold down the foundation of Tower 2 for the New Carquinez Bridge. Twelve 3-meter (diameter) piles are driven to a depth of as much as 49 meters at each Tower.
Tower 1 This is a 2.7 meter (diameter) drilling head used to drill beyond the the 3m steel pile. This drill head will drill below the tip of the pile to as much as 45 meters.
Tower 1 Upon completion of the drilling operation, maintenance is performed on the drilling head prior to the next rock socket operation.
Tower 1 These pile reinforcing cages are fabricated offsite at Mare Island in Vallejo, CA and are barged in at the Tower locations for final preparation onsite.
