Inquiry #2: After, a site visit, it appears that there are a few parcels that have structures that are called out to be protected in place; however the structures are located within 1’ to 2’ of the SW LOL, meaning they are within inches of the edge of CIDH Piles. The parcels of concern include 34904, 34930 and 34931.
Parcel 34904 - The building’s roof overhang is in line with the existing fence and the edge of the CIDH is to be in line with the existing fence.
Parcel 34930 - Existing shed and masonry/retaining wall are located within 0.5’ of edge of CIDH.
Parcel 34931 - The Patio cover hangs over the existing fence and edge of CIDH is to be in line with existing fence. Also, there is a masonry/retaining wall that is located within a foot of the edge of the CIDH.
How are we supposed to protect those structures in place while constructing the soundwall when there is not enough room to perform the work? Also, per the Special Provisions 58-2.03B, all excess mortar must be cleaned from beveled block joints, however the interfering structures will not allow enough room for this spec to be met. Will the alignment of the soundwalls be moved out to allow room for installation per the specifications and protection of the existing structures?

Inquiry #7: I have a inquiry in regards to the CMU heights for sound walls 358R, 362R & 662R. Based on the aesthetic pattern chosen for these masonry walls and incorporating a 4" cap block on top the wall and pilasters theres a problem with the overall height of the walls listed.

The overall height from top of pilecap to top of soundwall should be 4" off the CMU modular height. Meaning the wall should be for example 9'-0", 9"-8", 10'-4", 11'-0", 11'-8", 12'-4", 13'-0" and so on. But the heights associated with 358R, 362R & 662R are all modular 8" heights. Such as 8'-8", 9'-4", 10'-0", 10'-8", 11'-4", 12'-0" etc. It does not work out equally for the pattern chosen by Caltrans.

In order to build the wall to the height listed, you would have to use 4" high pieces right below the 4"cap. Which is not per plan. The height must be either increased or decreased by 4" and the final pay quantity should also be adjusted to reflect this change.

Though inquiry might be too late to issue an addendum, please note that the question was asked and needs to be addressed after or before bid award.
