Inquiry #2: . Item 37 Wire Mesh Fence, On the plans it has 5 strand barb wire transitioning into wire mesh but before it does this it specs out a 14' gate way however there is no bid item for this 14' gate way. Can you please clarify this?

Full compensation for constructing gateways at the locations shown on the plans shall be considered as included in the contract price paid per linear foot for the type of fence involved and no separate payment will be made.

Inquiry #3: Item 138 CL-7 Modified Does Cal-trans want driven posts or are t-posts sufficient to use? If so can we use a 10' 1.33 t-post in place of a 1 7/8 schedule 40 pipe?

Inquiry #5: Where the Rumble Strip is constructed prior to the final surfacing, does the HMA have to be patched back prior to the final surfacing? Or can the contractor place the final surfacing over the Rumble Strip?

Inquiry #8: Typical cross sections of existing roadway are shown on plan pages 2-24 as variable making it impossible to verify the exact quantity of AC roadway being removed. Plan sheet 436 of 541 "summary of quantities-earthwork" provide distinct quantities for AC pavement removal. Our takeoff for AC pavement removal are less than Cal Trans quantity utilizing the thickest sections provided in the typical cross sections. Please verify that Cal Trans will warrant the accuracy of their quantities provided in the summary of quantities for "remove AC pavement" and any changes found in the field will be considered a material changes if the contractor elects to pursue. If precise exiting roadway section information is available in which Cal Trans used to quantify the AC pavement removal please provide this information to the contractor.

Response #2:Plan Sheet 436 of 541, in the last column of the Earthwork Table "Remove AC Pvmt" (For Information Only) the quantities include existing AC surfacing, existing base and existing sub-base. Refer to Typical Cross Sections for width and thickness of the existing structural section.

Inquiry #9: Bid item #45 specifies removing the existing Weigh In Motion concrete, however the Construction Details page C-13 shows grinding the existing WIM concrete in place. Which method would Caltrans like to use?

Inquiry #10: Standard specifications section 19-2.06 for "Surplus material" have been amended in the special provisions section 10-1.35 "Earthwork" requiring contractor to dispose of surplus excavated material outside the highway right of way in accordance with section 7-1.13.

Does Cal Trans have any dumpsites available in the area to dispose of a portion or all of the surplus material?

Inquiry #13: The structural section where the existing road has to be removed and replaced to install the new box culverts is qunatified and paid for Drainage System 10 and 21. How will we get paid for the replacement of the existing structural section where we have to remove it and replace it in order to install the new culvert pipe and the other 4 box culverts.

Inquiry #16: Section 10-1.40 Erosion COntrol Hydroseeding page 135, states "tackifier must be guar.
Guar is not available currently from any suppliers. The normal application of guar is 60 lbs per acre but the specifications call out 150 lb per acre. This application rate is more indicative of psyllium binders.
Q: Can another material be substituted for the guar?
