Inquiry #1: Ramp closure chart No. R-07 does not provide enough hours to construct the ramp termini (Structural Section 8). The entire ramp needs to be closed for an extended period of time to complete the excavation, base, lean+cure and PCC+cure. It is not possible to safely construct the ramp termini with only one lane closed. Will Caltrans provide special closure times for this work?

Inquiry #5: The only treatment method for HMA aggregates is given as Lime Slurry Method on page 58 of the Special Provisions. For QC/QA projects, usually all three methods are specified and the proper method is to be used based on test results (Test 204) for plasticity index. As you know every aggregate source has a different plasticity index and the method is specified based on the plasticity index range.

Chart no,s. NB-01, NB-02 & NB-03 all refer to the Route/Direction:55/SB

Chart no's. SB-11 & SB-12 allows for a full main-line closure but its not indicated with a "C" in the Legend (Full freeway closure allowed in one direction only.

Inquiry #14: Bid Item 87 provides for individual slab replacement with the use of rapid strength concrete (RSC). The following sections related to the quality control and testing of RSC in 2010 Standard Specification, Section 41-9 are reserved: Sections 41-9.01C(4)and 41-9.01D(3) - QC Plan;Section 41-901D(5)- Quality Control Testing. The Special Provisions don't provide a disclosure of QC testing requirements as well. Would the QC testing be required during individual slab replacement with RSC? If yes, please provide requirements for the scope and frequency.

Inquiry #15: Bid Item 85 provides for Jointed Plain Concrete Pavement (RSC). We cannot find in the project Special Provisions requirements for Rapid Strength Concrete for JPCP (i.e., acceptance requirements for flexural strength). Nor can we find these requirements in 2010 Caltrans Standard Specifications. Please direct us to appropriate specifications.

Inquiry #16: Where can we find The PG1 and PG2 elevations for the Type 60C and Type 60GC barriers?

Are there cross sections available which would show the roadway offset for these variable height barriers?

We need this information in order to evaluate the quantities of concrete and reinforcing steel for these barriers.
