Inquiry #2: Charts K1, K2 and K3 on pages 12 - 14 of the special provisions note specific times where "No work is allowed". Please confirm that these charts do not apply to the work to be performed during Stage 2, 3 and 4 behind K-Rail. If these charts do apply, and work cannot be performed for Stages 2, 3 and 4 during the hours specified on the charts as "No work is allowed", may the contractor install temporary traffic screen on top of the temporary k-rail in order to be allowed to perform work during these hours.

Inquiry #4: The soil parameters shown on Sheet 47 of the plans for the Shoring Wall show a unit weight of 130.5 lb/ft^3 and an internal friction angle of 30 degrees. The information handout on page 69 of the pdf (page 2 of document #EA 33340K) show a unit weight of 110 lb/ft^3, cohesion of 150psf, and a friction angle of 10 degrees. Please confirm which is the correct soil parameters to use for the Shoring Wall

To begin the electronic bidding process you will first need to receive a Bidder Identification Number (Bidder ID) from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). After you have received your Bidder ID number, you can then establish a Digital ID, and a Bid Express Internet Bidding (Bidx) account. The process of establishing a Digital ID can take 7 days or longer. You will not be able to submit a bid until this process has been completed.
To receive your Bidder ID, submit a letter requesting a Bidder ID to Office Engineer. The letter requesting a Bidder ID number must be on company letterhead, showing the full legal name, phone number, fax number and address of the bidding company, along with an email address to which the Bidder ID number will be sent. Inquiry #8: Is the contractor allowed to work during the day during Stage 2, 3 and 4 without traffic screen installed on the krail.

Response #1:The Contractor is allowed to perform construction activities during the hours designated as “No work is allowed” on charts K1, K2 and K3, if he/she installs temporary traffic screens on top of the Type K temporary railings. Traffic screens are not allowed on the right side of traffic within the limits of a right horizontal curve with a radius of less than 2,000 feet as viewed in the direction of travel or on the left side of traffic within the limits of a left horizontal curve with a radius of less than 2,000 feet as viewed in the direction of travel.

The Department does not pay for furnishing, installing, maintaining, or removing temporary traffic screens that the Contractor elects to install on top of the Type K temporary railings.
