Inquiry #2: ON LOCATION 4 SHEET C-5. PLANS SHOW DOUBLE THRIE BEAM GOING IN ALL THE WAY TO THE BRIDGE OR NEW CONC BARRIER TRANSITION. THERE USALLY IS A BID ITEM FOR A DTB TRANSTION. ARE WE SUPPOSE TO INCLUDE THE TRANSTION INTO OUR DOUBLE THRIE BEAM PRICE OR WILL CALTRANS COME OUT WITH A BID ITEM FOR DTB TRANSITION?

Response #2:Per the Standard Specifications (pg. 113), “Full Compensation for work specified in division II (Existing Facilities) is included in the payment for the bid items.” Therefore, payment for excavation is to be included in the payment of the bid item for Existing Facilities.

Inquiry #4: Is it required to remove the asphalt pad beneath the Crash Cushion (Sand Filled) when the units are removed? Typically there is a separate bid item for this work.

Inquiry #5: It appears there could be several locations where the guardrail face is less than 4' from an obstacle which would require a strengthened railing section. Can you identify where these strengthened railing sections are required and how Cal Trans intends to pay for them?

Response #2:The Strengthened Sections are to be paid for as the length of the MGS (Midwest Guardrail System) and not separately, the contractors are to bid accordingly.

To assist the contractors in bidding, Sheet Q-1 lists the length of MGS at each location and for some locations there is an asterisk (*) above the length, the asterisk refers to the note below which states, "Strengthened MGS Sections for Fixed Object, See Std Plan RSP A77R3."

Inquiry #7: Please provide the inertial profile report for the current condition of the job at bid time so that we can propose on the pre-paving grinding.

It is impossible to provide a Lump Sum price without knowing what condition the existing road is and if the smoothness requirement is attainable.

Response #2:The Cold Plane width and lengths (dimensions) are conveyed on quantity sheets (Q-2 to Q-4). A detail for tapering off (Cold Planeing) with the local street is shown on sheet C-21, while Overlay detail is shown on sheet C-22 (see attached). At locations where there is existing RHMA (O) the entire intersection will be Cold Planed and repaved.

Response #2:At sections of the road where there are 2-lanes in each direction, for a total of 4-lanes, the contractor may close 1-lane in each direction (NB & SB). Per the Special Provisions, the contractor may not have multiple lane closures in the same direction.

Inquiry #12: Plan sheet C-10 (13) shows a parallel approach intersection for Tulare Rd. to Hwy 65. The existing is a T-Intersection.

Response #2:The T-intersection of SR-65 & Tulare Rd is not shown because it is further north than the limits shown on sheet C-10. Furthermore, the only work to be performed per sheet C-10 is the removal and reconstruction of guardrail (per Type 16E layout).
The overlay work at any intersection is shown with a typical detail on sheet C-22.
