Inquiry #1: On Item #41 (In Line Terminal System) & Item #42 (Flared Terminal System) there are 3 options listed as well as "or equal" language. The X-Lite End Terminal system was recently approved by Caltrans Division of Traffic Operations and is listed as an equal alternative to other guard rail terminals. Will this product be allowed to bid/utilized on this project as an "or equal"?

Response #4:7/18/14: You are correct that the X-Lite End Terminal system was recently approved by Caltrans for use as an in-line or flared terminal system. . Individual use on a project is as specified in the contract documents or as approved by the Engineer after contract award. Please refer to sheet C-109 of Addendum Number One in addition to the current contract documents for information on pay limits for the Alternative In Line Terminal Systems. Please bid per the current contract documents.”

Inquiry #2: There are various location that call for a Radius Transition Rail WB-31. The manufacturers can't radius the reducer element. How does Caltrans want us to handle these locations?

Inquiry #4: Sheet C-53 states in Detail B that the 7' wood posts shall be 6" x 8". Strengthened sections usually require 6" x 8" x 6' posts. Should Detail B read 6" x 8" x 6' wood posts?

Inquiry #5: The Detail on sheet C-109 for Typical MGS Placement Details Narrow Roadway Installation Only show Reconstructing the hinge behind the guardrail. Where is this reconstruct work paid? I do not see a bid item or quantities for import borrow for this work.

Response #2:7/18/14: The work will be paid for under item 30, Midwest Guardrail System per Section 9-1.03. Furthermore, please refer to Section 83-1.02A, paragraph 10 and Section .83-1.03 PAYMENT, paragraph 5, "Payment for excavation and backfill is included in the railing work that requires it." of the Standard Specifications. Please bid per the current contract documents.
