Geotechnical Services (GS) provides expertice to clients throughout the State of California. Many of the functions in GS cover the entire state in a single branch. However, as California is the most populous state and the third largest, the state has been subdivided into regions and districts to best serve the public.

Geotechnical Services has four Offices of Geotechnical Design, each of which serves a particular region. The color-coded map of California to the left identifies each of the three regions, North, West and South. South is further delineated into South 1, which serves Districts 7 and 12, and South 2 that serves Districts 8 and 11. The map also identifes Caltrans Districts, since many of the Offices have branches that are dedicating to serving a particular District.
