Fly Ash
Fly ash is the dust which is left behind from the burning of coal in a coal fired electrical power plant. When looked at through a microscope, it would appear to be glassy ball bearings.
Where does fly ash come from? Fly ash is produced all over the country by electrical power plants. California does not have very many coal fired power plants because much of the state's electricity is produced by hydroelectric power or nuclear power plants. It is largely considered a waste product and sent to landfills.
