Oral Histories Since 1978, a number of oral histories have been produced under the direction of the Caltrans History Preservation Committee. This "Highway Recollections" series consists of tape recordings and published transcriptions of interviews with retired engineers, highway maintenance workers, administrators, and other personnel who have shared their insights on past highway development and changes within the Department. District 3 (D3) volunteers also produced several recollections of district staff for the "Highway Recollections" series. The Library also acquired a copy of an oral history of former Director Adrianna Gianturco conducted via the California State Archives Oral History Program. Transcriptions of the oral histories are cataloged and kept with other published materials in the Caltrans Library and History Center. They may be checked out by Caltrans staff. Tapes are kept separately and are available through arrangement with the Historical Records Officer. For short summaries of Oral Histories click on this Archives link.
