Branch Overview

• Identify opportunities to improve connectivity between transit and rail, particularly between commuter and intercity rail.
  
• Facilitate workshops and training on transit security. Work with HQ units, Caltrans districts and transit providers to establish an inventory of security and emergency resources around the state. Develop and update the division’s transit emergency response plan.
  
• Coordinate the implementation of the California 511 for Rural and Inter-Regional Travel Information Systems. 511 is a new three-digit phone number for travel information. When fully implemented, 511 would provide an easy to remember phone number that can be accessed by travelers anywhere to obtain information about state highways, local roads, local transit, state and local trains before and during their trip.
