Willow Cuttings

What is This Treatment?
This work consists of planting willow cuttings.
When to Use This Treatment?
- Use when recommended by geotechnical engineers, typically for repair of failed cut or fill slopes.
- Timing of installation is critical. It is best to install the willow cuttings as the RSP is being placed. It is very difficult to add willow cuttings after installation of Rock Slope Protection.
Benefits:
- Rock Slope Protection helps to maintain slope stability. Willow cuttings soften the visual impact of rock slopes, and may help provide habitat.
Limitations:
- Requires accessible, local stand of willows from which cuttings can be harvested.
- Harvest of cuttings may require permits.
- Harvesting and planting of cuttings may require a construction window.
- May require planting during the rainy season or supplemental irrigation to effectively establish plants.
