Airport Boulevard and State Route 86S currently intersect at ground level. The upcoming construction project replaces this ground level intersection with an interchange carrying Airport Boulevard traffic over the SR-86S, improving safety and congestion.
Scope of Project:
The new bridge will be built to accommodate:
Three 12-foot wide lanes
Left turn pockets at the on ramps
Two 8-foot wide shoulders
Traffic signal controlled on and off ramps
A 6-foot wide sidewalk on the south side of the bridge
The pedestrian sidewalk will be located on the south side of Airport Boulevard. The sidewalk will begin at Desert Cactus Drive on the west side and end at Fillmore Street on the east. The sidewalk is six feet wide on the bridge and seven feet wide off of the bridge. Traffic signals will be installed on Airport Boulevard at the freeway ramps.
