Projects | RiversideANZA Roundabout

In response to community concerns Caltrans has developed a rendering of what a roundabout would look like and how it would serve as a traffic calming device. Contreras Road and SR-371 is being considered as the location for the roundabout as it is one of the busiest intersections in town.

Renderings / Diagrams

Arguments for:

  • Vehicle safety: Roundabouts have fewer vehicle “conflict points” and therefore fewer major collisions and injuries. There are no left turns, only right turns.
  • Pedestrian safety is significantly improved. They cross only one-way traffic.
  • Traffic operations: Roundabouts are able to handle a high volume of traffic.
  • Has excellent traffic-calming effect. Speed is reduced naturally to negotiate it.
  • Environment & aesthetics: Excellent opportunity for landscaping/public art etc..
Arguments against:
  • Safety for visually impaired: Roundabouts do not have the same visual queues.
  • Initial confusion & driver unfamiliarity will occur. But users adapt fast and come to like it.
  • Potential increase of minor collisions.

To express your support or opposition of the roundabout, Anza residents should contact a member of AVMAC. Based on community response, AVMAC will contact Caltrans and advise the community's decision.
