The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the permanent closure of access from Avenue 21 1/2 and Avenue 22 1/2 to southbound State Route 99 in the community of Fairmead. This closure is part of the ongoing Fairmead Interchange Project anticipated to be completed in Fall of 2009. This phase of the project will consist of removing cross median access/travel via installation of median barriers on State Route 99 at both Avenue 21 1/2 and Avenue 22 1/2. Southbound access at State Route 99 from eastbound Avenue 21 1/2 and eastbound 22 1/2 will no longer be permitted. The following work schedule is subject to change. (weather permitting) On, Monday, May 21st, concrete barriers will be installed in the median on State Route 99 at both Avenue 21 1/2 and Avenue 22 1/2. Barriers will be installed to prevent access from eastbound Avenue 21 1/2 and eastbound Avenue 22 1/2 onto southbound State Route 99. Motorists will continue to have full access to State Route 99 at the Avenue 20 interchange just south of the project limits and at the Avenue 24 interchange just north of the project limits. Caltrans would like to thank the residents and commuters for their patience during this improvement project. Motorists are reminded to drive with extra care while travelling through construction projects and to “Slow for the Cone Zone” in all construction and maintenance areas. Up-to-the-minute road conditions are available by telephone through the Caltrans Highway Information Network at 1-800-427-ROAD (7623). For further information regarding this project, please contact the District 6 Public Information Office at the number listed above. ![]() ### |
