| Fresno-The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) in partnership with the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the City of Fresno and various Adopt-A-Highway volunteer groups will hold the Spring Anti-Litter Cleanup Event. This event is scheduled for 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at the Save Mart Center parking lot closest to State Route 168/Shaw Avenue. The Anti-Litter Enforcement and Trash-Off Event is part of a statewide effort that will focus on reducing the litter on the highways and educating the public. All non-emergency Caltrans Maintenance staff will dedicate a full day of activities aimed at dramatically reducing litter. The California Highway Patrol will have a maximum enforcement effort — focusing on uncovered loads, improperly maintained equipment and waste material spilled or thrown onto the roadways. Caltrans, CHP and the City of Fresno continue their cooperative efforts to educate the public that litter is an ongoing problem. Immediately following the press conference, Caltrans District 6 employees, ALL non-emergency Caltrans Maintenance Staff and Adopt-A-Highway Volunteer Groups will continue their litter clean-up efforts along a section of State Route 168 between Shaw and Bullard avenues and other sections of highways that have been identified. Caltrans, CHP and the City of Fresno invite and encourage all groups and individuals to consider adopting a section of highway or set an example for others by not littering. For more information regarding this event or the required safety training, please contact the District 6 Public Information Office at (559) 444-2409 or via e-mail at: gloria_rodriguez@dot.ca.gov |
