Caltrans to Install New Stop Sign on Van Ness and State Route 41

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is committed to improving mobility across California and the safety of the travelling public. In the spirit of this commitment Caltrans is partnering with the City of Fresno and installing a three-way stop at the intersection of Van Ness Avenue and the northbound off-ramp from State Route 41 in the City of Fresno.

Currently at this location only the off-ramp has a stop sign. In the new configuration, both northbound and southbound Van Ness Avenue will be required to stop. Portable message boards have been placed at this location to forewarn the public of the new situation. They will remain in place approximately one week after the signs have been installed with the message “Stop Ahead”. This work is being done at the request of the Fresno City Council and the City of Fresno Traffic Department.

The traffic signs will be installed on Tuesday, August 8, 2005. Caltrans would like to thank the commuters for their patience during this safety project. The public is reminded to drive with extra care while traveling through the orange “cone zone” areas.
