Q3) What is the depth and minimum width of the cold plane areas?

A3) Refer to Addendum No. 2, dated April 15, 2011. 19Apr11.


Q4) Caltrans has had previous projects with the same scope of work that included a bid item for Temporary Railing along with plans (i.e. Traffic Handling Plan)reflecting the location and length required for the installation for the Temporary Railing as well as other traffic control devices (i.e. crash cushions). These plans do not include a traffic handling plan which would show the Temporary Railing required to construct the project. How does Caltrans intend to address/pay for this item of work when there is not a bid item for such work.

A4) Temporary railing (Type K) is not required for this project except as necessary for public safety. Refer to Section 7-1.09 "PUBLIC SAFETY" of the Standard Specifications: "Except as otherwise provided in this Section 7-1.09 or in the special provisions, full compensation for conforming to all of the provisions in this Section 7-1.09 shall be considered as included in the prices paid for the various contract items of work and no additional compensation will be allowed therefor." Refer also to Section 10-1.10 "MAINTAINING TRAFFIC" of the Special Provisions for lane requirements along with the Standard Plans for Traffic Control Systems. 20Apr11.
