Seven Storm Repair Projects in Western Sonoma County
New Projects

Caltrans crews are scheduled to begin a drainage system project at the intersection of State Route 116 and Bohemian Highway the week of March 4. Crews will excavate the roadway to install the drainage system. One way traffic control will be in effect during the day with flaggers directing traffic. At night, metal plates will cover the work area and two-way traffic will resume. This job is a twenty-day work contract. Caltrans awarded the $100,500 contract to Dreambuilder of Placentia, California.

Crews will be activating one-way traffic control at Timber Gulch on Highway 1 north of Jenner by the end of March for a landslide repair project. Caltrans estimates this work will take about 6 months. Crews will use soil nail walls to stabilize the earth both above and below the road. Caltrans awarded the job to North Bay Construction with a $1.3 million contract.

Continuing Projects

• The project west of Redwood Road near Northwood is finished with the exception of some landscaping.
• The job east of Monte Rio is still using one way traffic control. Tieback installation is complete and next crews apply the architectural wall treatment. This job is scheduled to be complete in late Spring.
• The Monte Cristo job continues with one way traffic control. It is 80% complete and a fence and railing is yet to be installed. One way traffic control is scheduled to be lifted in the next several weeks.
• The project just east of Duncans Mills is complete.

The project just west of Duncans Mills is about 75% complete, but some redesign work was necessary due to crews hitting unexpected manmade objects below the earth’s surface. Work will resume sometime in March, but the final work will not take place until after June 15, as dictated by California Department of Fish and Game permits. One way traffic control remains in place. The retaining wall at Jenner is nearly complete.

The Bodega Bay job at Lucas Wharf is 85% complete. The main construction should be complete sometime in late Spring, with the road realignment set to be finished in summer. No traffic controls are in effect and all businesses remain open.

Caltrans thanks the Russian River communities and Russian River Chamber of Commerce for their patience and support during the storm damage repair. One-way traffic control can try one’s patience, however it is the safest way to protect motorists and workers during highway construction work. Caltrans also acknowledges the work of the dedicated contractors and crews from Granite Construction and Gordon N. Ball.
