    Project Purpose and Need:The purpose of this project is to alleviate congestion on Sonoma 101 between Wilfred Avenue and the Route 101/12 Interchange.  

    Contents of this Environmental Document: This document contains a signed Negative Declaration (ND -CEQA) and a signed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI -NEPA) accompanying an Environmental Assessment (EA), which examines the potential environmental impacts of the proposed project. 

     The Initial Study / Environmental Assessment for this document circulated for a comment and review period of at least 30 days. Responses to the document are summarized in Section 12: Public Participation. Modifications have been made the final ND/EA in response to public comment. 

     The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is concerned about how each of its projects impacts the environment. There are laws and regulations that provide guidelines for minimizing the impacts to the environment.  

    This ND/EA has been written to comply with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The purpose of this document is to present to the public the environmental consequences of the proposed project. [BACK]  

    Next Steps: This project will be authorized pending final approval by the CTC. After that is complete, Caltrans will begin construction of this project. [BACK]
