As one of the many complex Toll Bridges in the San Francisco Bay Area, The San Mateo-Hayward Bridge links State Route 92 from the San Francisco Peninsula to the East Bay carrying more than 83,000 vehicles daily. The San Mateo-Hayward Bridge consists of two different segments totaling approximately 7 miles in length, it is one of eight major bridges in the San Francisco Bay Area. The first segment on the West approach consists of a steel box girder bridge which spans the main navigation channel. The second segment on the East approach consists of a concrete trestle. It was determined that a seismic gap of 36” inches was needed for the two complete spans of the bridge, spans 38 and 285 between (Pier 38 and Bent 286).

The project is in San Mateo County on State Route 92 in Foster City at the east approach to the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge. This project will provide rehabilitation for both spans 38 and 285 (between Pier 38 and Bent 286). The rehabilitation entails the replacement of the steel girders and concrete slabs. The existing utilities will be relocated during construction and replaced to their original locations at the end of construction.

No anticipated environmental impacts.

This project will require 2 full weekend bridge closures in both
directions, eastbound and westbound, Friday, 10:00 p.m. to Monday 5:00 a.m. Vehicles will be detoured to the Dumbarton Bridge ( State Route 84) or the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge (Interstate 80). Caltrans will use changeable message signs to help guide motorists during the closure.

The following locations will still be accessible during the bridge closures:

From Interstate 880 north or south to westbound Route 92:
Hesperian Boulevard
Industrial Boulevard
Clawiter Road

From U.S. 101 north or south to eastbound Route 92:
