DAMAGED BRIDGE GIRDER AT WILLOW PASS ROAD WILL BE REPLACED;
ON-RAMP FROM WILLOW PASS TO SOUTH I-680 WILL REMAIN CLOSED
Caltrans engineers have determined that the damage suffered to a girder on the Willow Pass Road overcrossing is extensive and will need to be replaced for public safety reasons.
The on-ramp from westbound Willow Pass Road to southbound I-680 in Concord will remain closed until work is completed on a concrete girder that was damaged Tuesday by an over-sized vehicle.
The vehicle, which had a permit to travel on the State Highway System, left the freeway and hit the overcrossing while on a city-owned street.
Traffic for the westbound Willow Pass Road on-ramp to southbound I-680 will be detoured via Willow Pass Road and directed west to Contra Costa Boulevard, then north on Contra Costa Boulevard to Concord Avenue, and then east on Concord Avenue to the southbound I-680 on-ramp. Eastbound Willow Pass Road traffic will not be affected.
Caltrans Headquarters Office of Structures, in Sacramento will prepare plans within the next three to four weeks for this emergency construction contract. Estimates of construction costs and contract duration will be released with the contract.
